Never say die. I've tried, and it doesn't actually make people die.

Here are words. See words run. Run words, run.

Just so I don't get sacked....

I try to talk teenagers out of making the mistakes I made.

Amazingly, the great British public pays me to do it. I suspect that many of them might regret it if they ever met me...

I repay this munificence by being ill a lot, and spending the rest of my time drunk. I'm a trainee stoic and I think I've forgotten how to write.

Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.

Lucius Annaeus Seneca

The Genius Of The Crowd

there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity in the average
human being to supply any given army on any given day

and the best at murder are those who preach against it
and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace

those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love

beware the preachers
beware the knowers
beware those who are always reading books
beware those who either detest poverty
or are proud of it
beware those quick to praise
for they need praise in return
beware those who are quick to censor
they are afraid of what they do not know
beware those who seek constant crowds for
they are nothing alone
beware the average man the average woman
beware their love, their love is average
seeks average

but there is genius in their hatred
there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
to kill anybody
not wanting solitude
not understanding solitude
they will attempt to destroy anything
that differs from their own
not being able to create art
they will not understand art
they will consider their failure as creators
only as a failure of the world
not being able to love fully
they will believe your love incomplete
and then they will hate you
and their hatred will be perfect

like a shining diamond
like a knife
like a mountain
like a tiger
like hemlock

their finest art

Charles Bukowski

TV talking heads keep yippie-yi-yo-ing about racial injustice, but the fact that there are rich people and poor people is accepted without question. While all the "white" and "colored" drinking fountains may have been removed, there remain thousands of restaurants and nightclubs and golf courses and gated neighborhoods where working class chumps of any color wouldn't be welcome. As things stand, it's blasphemous to exclude someone from your neighborhood based on any color but green.

Jim Goad The Redneck Manifesto

But you see, alcohol is such a pleasant god. It allows you to commit suicide and awaken again and kill yourself again. There is something lengthy about an alcoholic's death. Drugs are fast; if you believe in a god, you are completely dead anyhow, because you have given away your whole brain process to somebody other than yourself. Alcohol is a slow process of dying. In other words, you are not quitting all at once. You are quitting inch by inch instead of quickly giving up. You are waiting around until maybe something might happen a little bit better.
